Enjoy your riding!

Bike Week 2008 runs from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 June, and Winchester cycling clubs are gearing up to run lots of rides. With the focus this year on the family, there's something for all ages and all abilities.

Sue Coles, the local CTC organiser, says "The great thing about cycling is that it's more than a sustainable, non-polluting and healthy activity. It's also great fun and an excellent way to discover your local area and meet new friends."

Bike Week starts on Saturday 14 June with a mountain-bike ride organised by NewForce, followed by the colourful Cycle Cavalcade at 11 am around Winchester city centre. In the afternoon CTC is running its popular Bygone Railways Ride on some of the disused tracks in the area, including visits to Chesil tunnel and Hockley viaduct.

On Wednesday evening 18 June CTC has evening leisure rides of 8 - 10 miles or 15 - 25 miles with an optional pub stop.
On Thursday evening 19 June VCV is offering a 10-mile time-trial taster - it's you against the clock! Or if off-road is more your thing, there's a mountain-bike ride run in conjunction with Hargrove Cycles.

On Saturday 21 June, in the morning VCV is running its cycle slalom challenge at River Park Leisure Centre, targeted particularly at young cyclists in school years 1 - 8. In the afternoon, CTC has an on-road leisure ride suitable for novice cyclists.

On Sunday 22 June the final rides of Bike Week are CTC's "Winton" 200 km and 100 km runs starting and finishing at Kings Worthy - challenging rides for more experienced cyclists.
