A century after Dickie Frost's triumphs, there's another long-distance cyclist in Winchester. He's Simon Eden, the Chief Executive of Winchester City Council.
Three times in recent years Simon has ridden the 275 miles to Laon, Winchester's twin city in Northern France, and raised thousands of pounds for charity. This year he's also doing a shorter ride - the Cavalcade around Winchester city centre which opens Bike Week on Saturday 14 June at 11 am starting from The Broadway.
Simon Eden says: "Bike Week is very popular in Winchester. So I'm pleased and honoured to have been asked to start it this year, and I look forward to sending off the Cavalcade. Everybody's welcome and we hope lots of people will come for the ride. Bring a fancy bike or fancy clothes and let's make a real picture of it!"
