    About The Watercress Line

    Let off steam and travel by lovingly restored steam trains through 10 miles of beautiful Hampshire countryside. Its the perfect way to unwind and witness the sights, sounds, smells and magic of steam travel from a bygone age.


    You can either join the line at the picturesque Georgian town of Alresford, or the bustling market town of Alton. On your journey you can stop at Ropley and Medstead & Four Marks stations and marvel at their preserved history.


    Special events throughout the year include Day out with Thomas, Bluey & Bingo Meet and Greet, spectacular Steam Galas, Wizard Week, Steam Illuminations and much, much more please see the Watercress Line website for further details. Please visit the website for up-to-date information on train timetables and services.

    Directions


    It is recommend that visitors start their journey with The Watercress Line from either Alresford or Alton.

    By road, take M3 Junction 9 or 10, then A31 to Alresford or Alton stations. Follow the brown tourist signs to the Watercress Line. Parking is available at Alresford and Alton. Please do not park on the narrow lanes in Bighton as this makes it difficult for people to pass.

    By public transport, the no. 64 bus from Winchester Bus Station and Stagecoach operate regular public bus service to Alresford and Alton. Trains from London Waterloo to Alton station with South West Trains. At Alton Station, the Watercress Line is on platform 3 over the footbridge.

Discounted fares available for groups of 15+ people. All discounts are on standard travel (non-event) days only.
