City Museum

Located in the heart of the historic city of Winchester, City Museum tells the story of England’s ancient capital, the seat of Alfred the Great.

From its origins as an Iron Age trading centre to Anglo‑Saxon glory, the last journey of Jane Austen to the hunt for King Alfred’s remains, explore the sights and sounds of Winchester past and present in the museum’s three galleries.

Directions 

City Museum is located in The Square, adjacent to Winchester Cathedral.

Winchester is accessible by car via major road routes including the M3, A34 and A31. Winchester Park and Ride has multiple parking sites across the city, with a stop just a short walking distance to the venue. Find out more at Winchester City Council’s website.

By train, Winchester is on the South West main line, with regular and direct trains to and from London Waterloo and major cities across the South and Midlands. It is approximately a 10 minute walk from the railway station to City Museum. Buses run regularly from the railway station to the city centre.

By bus, Winchester is served by bus services from Stagecoach, Bluestar and National Express. The nearest stops to City Museum are Broadway and Winchester Bus Station.
