The market is recognised as one of the best in Europe with tourists traveling from all over the world for its bustling atmosphere, and handpicked, high-quality local exhibitors. This year, visit over 15 independent businesses showcasing their wares in the Winchester BID Independent Business Chalet.
The cathedral hosts special events, including atmospheric Christmas services, popular Christmas concerts, and beautiful performances by the cathedral choir. So while you are visiting the market, don't forget to step inside and immerse yourself in over 1,000 years of history.
From Saturday 30 November to Monday 23 December, the historic Great Hall is transformed into a Santa’s Grotto for the very first time. The festive magic starts at Westgate Museum where children are asked to write a list to Santa, before making their way down the merry Candy Cane Lane to discover the grotto nestled within the grandeur of this iconic site. Tickets for weekend slots have already sold out - so don't miss your chance to see Santa and book on one of the weekday experiences soon.
Beyond the city, enchanting experiences await. Families can embark on a Cosmic Christmas adventure at Winchester Science Centre - a live-action immersive space experience. Ride through Hampshire's countryside on an illuminated steam train as The Watercress Line once again hosts Steam Illuminations - an incredible sound and light show on and in its steam trains.
