Hans Coper: Resurface

The Gallery is proud to be able to present on public display for the first time a rare ceramic mural by British émigré artist, Hans Coper. Coper made three murals in his lifetime for buildings across the UK, none of which remain in place today. Commissioned for the Royal Army Pay Corps in the 1960s, the 4m tall mural once looked out commandingly over Worthy Down, near Winchester. We will explore this experimental time in the artist's career with items rarely seen before and look at the role of public art commissioning during the period.

The exhibition is made in collaboration with the Crafts Study Centre and the Coper Estate.
